In a major win for climate-conscious logistics, Carrier Transicold has landed its first flagship deal with Bidcorp UK — supplying over 100 engineless refrigeration units to drive a more sustainable future in temperature-controlled food delivery.
The agreement, confirmed this week, will see 112 Syberia Twincool units and one Syberia 11 system deployed across Bidfood’s UK fleet, mounted on 18- and 26-tonne Scania trucks with insulated bodies by Gray & Adams. The move is part of a strategic shift from legacy cooling systems to modern, engine-free technology that reduces emissions and fuel dependency while delivering high-performance cold chain reliability.
For Bidcorp UK — which serves over 60,000 clients in foodservice and hospitality — the order represents a major fleet upgrade. For Carrier Transicold, it marks a critical turning point in the UK’s shift toward greener logistics infrastructure.
Driving Real Sustainability Into Food Distribution
What sets this deal apart is the transition to Carrier’s Syberia 18i Twincool refrigeration systems, which are powered by Eco-Drive modules rather than separate diesel engines. These units draw power directly from the truck’s Euro VI engine via a hydraulic system, cutting down on fuel use, noise, and emissions.
The result?
100% cooling performance at idle speed
PIEK-compliant noise levels below 60 dB(A)
Significantly improved refrigerant retention
Zero belts or pulleys for better uptime
This tech-forward setup not only strengthens the fleet’s environmental profile — it also enhances operational efficiency across Bidfood’s six-day-a-week delivery network, covering hospitals, care homes, hotels, schools, and restaurants across the UK.
“When we saw the power and flexibility of Carrier’s Syberia units, we were confident investing,” said Faye Reeve, Head of Procurement at Bidcorp UK. “The performance, design and support add up to major business benefits.”
Strategic Upgrade Across 115 Trucks
In total, 115 trucks will be fitted with the new refrigeration systems — 98 Scania P250 18-tonners, 13 Scania P280 26-tonners, and one mono-temp Scania unit — all replacing older vehicles fitted with competitor cooling units.
The rollout is scheduled across the coming months and is expected to transform cold chain performance across Bidcorp’s 1,500-vehicle UK fleet, which covers up to 25,000 miles per truck annually.
The Syberia units also come backed by Carrier’s BluEdge full-service maintenance package, which includes:
Annual temperature control testing
Full regulatory compliance checks
24/7 incident management via the oneCALL support service
This aftersales package ensures performance longevity — a critical factor, given each vehicle is expected to stay in use for up to 10 years.
Cold Chain Innovation Meets Long-Term Climate Targets
The collaboration supports Carrier’s 2030 goal to help customers avoid over one gigaton of greenhouse gas emissions. By integrating refrigeration into the main vehicle engine and removing the need for secondary diesel units, Carrier’s systems are helping supermarkets and foodservice distributors meet ESG benchmarks — without compromising product integrity.
Tony Biggs, National Sales Manager at Carrier Transicold, noted:
“This order showcases the power of engineless refrigeration to deliver on performance, efficiency, and sustainability — all at once. We’re proud to support Bidcorp UK on this forward-thinking journey.”
Why This Matters to Supermarket and FMCG Logistics
As food retail and foodservice companies come under increasing pressure to decarbonize their supply chains, Carrier’s deal with Bidcorp UK offers a working blueprint:
Proven technology, not prototypes
Emission savings without operational sacrifice
Scalable cold chain solutions for national fleets
It’s a strong signal to the industry: sustainable refrigeration is no longer a future ambition — it’s today’s competitive edge.
