Japanese seafood and frozen food manufacturer Nissui Co., Ltd. has announced a major lineup of new and renewed food products for the Spring/Summer 2026 season, expanding its range of frozen meals, ready-to-eat side dishes and bento items for retail distribution in Japan.
The company presented the range during a product launch event held on 20 January 2026, confirming that 52 new products and 10 renewed items began reaching stores from 1 March 2026.
The lineup focuses on convenient meal solutions designed for everyday home consumption, particularly frozen meals and side dishes that can be prepared quickly.
Among the highlighted launches is the frozen rice bowl meal “Manpukudon: Pork Cutlet Bowl with Fragrant Dashi.” The 310-gram product combines domestically produced rice with pork cutlet pieces and a sauce made with brewed soy sauce, brown sugar and dashi stock. The dish also includes egg to create a traditional katsudon-style flavour profile.
The product was developed under the supervision of Chef Masaoki Kurata, known for his restaurant Soba Kappo Kurata. Nissui said the packaging also incorporates environmental considerations, including plant-based ink components and the removal of aluminium from the film material.
The company also introduced “Bento Petit Kama,” a chilled crab-flavoured kamaboko product designed for lunchboxes. Each 10-gram piece is packaged in a double pack of three pieces and contains calcium while remaining egg-free to accommodate allergy-sensitive consumers.
Several frozen seafood side dishes are also included in the Spring/Summer lineup. These include microwave-ready products from the “Today’s Side Dish” series, such as salt-grilled mackerel and Saikyo-style grilled Spanish mackerel. Nissui stated that bones are removed to make the products easier to eat and that its proprietary marinating process helps maintain a soft texture after reheating.
Another product in the range is fried horse mackerel with plum and shiso, designed as a larger frozen side dish for family meals. The product uses a coarse breadcrumb coating and a microwave-safe tray intended to recreate the texture of freshly fried food.
Nissui said the tray uses paper-based materials as part of the company’s environmental packaging approach.
The Spring/Summer release reflects ongoing demand for convenient frozen and ready-to-heat meal options across Japanese grocery retail, particularly as households look for quick meal solutions that still reflect familiar domestic flavours.
The company confirmed that the five highlighted products were scheduled for nationwide release starting 1 March 2026, alongside the wider seasonal product rollout.
