Walmart appoints Erin Nealy Cox as Chief Legal Officer, starting April 13, 2026.
Cox joins the retailer from Kirkland & Ellis, where she has served as a partner in the firm’s Government, Regulatory and Internal Investigations practice since 2021.
Before joining Kirkland & Ellis, Cox served as the United States Attorney for the Northern District of Texas. During that time, she led federal investigations and prosecutions across areas including white-collar crime, cybersecurity, national security and public corruption.
Earlier in her career, Cox also worked as an Executive Managing Director at Stroz Friedberg, a global cybersecurity and risk management firm, where she led the company’s global incident response practice.
At Walmart, Cox will oversee the company’s Global Governance organisation. The division includes global legal affairs, compliance, corporate governance, ethics, enterprise risk management, litigation, investigations and corporate security, along with the retailer’s Global Security Operations Center.
The appointment places Cox in charge of legal strategy and regulatory oversight for one of the world’s largest retail companies.
Headquartered in Bentonville, Arkansas, **Walmart operates more than 10,900 stores and e-commerce platforms across 19 countries. The company serves roughly 280 million customers and members each week.
For the fiscal year ending 2026, Walmart reported revenue of about $713 billion and employs around 2.1 million associates globally.
The leadership change comes as global retailers continue to navigate increasingly complex regulatory environments, digital governance issues and cybersecurity risks linked to large-scale omnichannel operations.
