PepsiCo has reported new progress toward its 2030 water sustainability targets, including expanded reporting across franchise bottling operations in high water-risk regions.
The company said it has now achieved 58% progress toward its 2030 watershed replenishment target. That represents around 23 billion liters of water returned, restored, or replenished into local watersheds.
The update forms part of PepsiCo’s wider pep+ sustainability strategy and includes manufacturing facilities owned directly by the company as well as franchise bottler sites located in high water-risk areas.
PepsiCo said the expanded reporting scope is based on a 2025 assessment using the World Resources Institute Aqueduct tool.
The company also reported improvements in water-use efficiency across beverage and convenient food production sites operating in high water-risk regions.
According to the update, beverage manufacturing facilities reached an efficiency level of 1.6 liters per liter of production, while convenient food sites achieved 2.0 liters per kilogram of production.
Why it matters
Water availability is becoming an increasingly important operational issue for global FMCG manufacturers, particularly in beverage production and food processing.
Large multinational suppliers are under growing pressure to improve manufacturing efficiency, reduce dependence on high-risk water sources, and strengthen long-term resilience across supply chains.
For supermarkets and retail buyers, sustainability reporting from major FMCG suppliers is also becoming more closely linked to procurement standards, supplier evaluations, and long-term sourcing strategies.
PepsiCo said its 2030 targets now include direct manufacturing operations operated by franchise bottlers in high water-risk areas.
The company highlighted collaboration with Mexican franchise bottler GEPP as part of its replenishment efforts and water management programs.
PepsiCo said it will continue working toward three main 2030 water targets:
- achieving improved water-use efficiency ratios across beverage and food production facilities in high water-risk areas
- replenishing 100% of the water used in high-risk manufacturing operations
- supporting access to safe water for 100 million people
The latest PepsiCo water goals update reflects how environmental risk management is becoming increasingly tied to long-term FMCG manufacturing strategy and operational resilience.
