Lidl Launches High-Protein Hybrid Meat Range

-

Lidl GB is launching a new high-protein meat range that combines British meat with pea protein as the discounter targets growing demand for higher-protein food at affordable prices.

The High Protein Meat range will arrive in Lidl stores nationwide on Friday 18 September, with prices starting at £1.99.

Lidl said the products contain at least 20% more protein than their traditional meat counterparts. The range includes Cumberland sausages, beef mince, quarter pounders, meatballs and pork sausages.

High Protein Cumberland Sausages will be priced at £1.99 and are designed to provide up to 50% more protein than traditional equivalents. High Protein Beef Mince with 5% fat will cost £4.79, while the 10% fat version will sell for £3.99.

High Protein Quarter Pounders will be priced at £2.99 and High Protein Meatballs at £2.79.

The launch combines two trends currently shaping supermarket product development: increased consumer interest in protein-rich foods and retailers’ efforts to increase the proportion of plant-derived protein in their ranges.

Lidl said 51% of consumers identify cost as the biggest barrier to following a high-protein diet, making price a central part of the new range’s positioning.

The retailer has also committed to increasing plant-based options to 25% of its total protein offering by 2030.

Richard Bourns, chief commercial officer at Lidl GB, said the range was designed to make higher-protein choices more accessible while supporting the retailer’s broader protein-transition commitments.

The launch will provide an early indication of shopper appetite for hybrid products that retain conventional meat while incorporating plant protein, an approach that could offer supermarkets another route between traditional meat and fully plant-based alternatives.
