Aldi has been named the UK’s cheapest supermarket for June 2026 by consumer organisation Which?, completing a six-month winning streak in the retailer’s monthly grocery price comparisons.
According to the latest Which? analysis, a basket of 95 everyday grocery items cost an average of £163.34 at Aldi during June. Lidl followed closely at £164.79 when loyalty discounts were included, while Waitrose was the most expensive at £229.88.
The findings mean Aldi has topped the Which? monthly rankings throughout the first half of 2026, reinforcing its position in the UK grocery market as competition on price remains intense.
The comparison also found shoppers would have paid more for the same basket at other major supermarkets, even after loyalty discounts were applied. Tesco’s basket cost £194.67, Sainsbury’s came in at £193.30, Asda at £190.39, Morrisons at £198.41, Ocado at £214.72, and Waitrose at £229.88.
The June results highlight the growing importance of value-led grocery shopping as UK consumers continue to compare prices across supermarket chains. Retailers have increasingly relied on loyalty pricing, own-label ranges and promotional offers to attract shoppers looking to manage household spending.
For Aldi, the latest Which? ranking extends a consistent run of strong price performance after also being recognised as Which?’s Cheapest Supermarket of the Year for 2025.
The monthly comparison is widely watched across the grocery industry because it provides an independent snapshot of supermarket pricing using a consistent basket of everyday products.
