ALDI is moving again on food prices. After reducing butter at the end of September, the retailer now lowers the cost of cheese. Starting October 9, the ALDI cheese price reduction covers more than 30 products, with permanent cuts of up to 16 percent.
The new move affects both ALDI Nord and ALDI Süd. It brings lower prices on popular everyday cheeses—like Gouda, Emmental, and Edam. Customers can save up to 50 cents a pack, depending on the product. The company says it wants to keep basic dairy items affordable while holding its lead as the country’s top discounter.
Permanent Reductions Across The Range
Prices of products in the main ALDI private labels, which include HOFBURGER, MILSANI, My CHEESE SHOP, and Gut BIO, are reduced significantly. Examples are HOFBURGER Gouda slices (400g) becoming cheaper by €2.49 rather than 2.99, MILSANI Butter Cheese at 2.49 instead of 2.99 and other grated cheese lines reducing by 0.20 per pack. Even such organic products as the GUT BIO grated cheese are price-cut down to between €1.79 and 1.59.
The cuts are the aftermath of the butter price action and are another step in what many people consider the gradual softening of prices on major staples in the German supermarket industry. One of the core product groups in both ALDI Nord and Süd shops is cheese, and the refreshment applies to practically all types of cheese on the shelf, both sliced and grated, organic and local.
Strong Price Leadership in 2025
According to the 2025 Customer Monitor by ServiceBarometer AG, ALDI Nord and ALDI Süd continue to be rated best value and cheapest discounters in Germany for the 16th year running. The latest ALDI cheese price reduction reinforces that position at a time when shoppers are still watching food costs closely.
The company’s long-running focus on own-label pricing again shows in this move. Both ALDI divisions are also in the process of updating private label packaging, which means some designs and names can vary regionally.
ALDI’s timing suggests a competitive step to defend its value image ahead of the winter season, following several months of downward adjustments in dairy and bakery prices.
With the latest reductions, ALDI adds pressure on rivals to follow. The discounter’s mix of steady price control and brand refresh continues to define its 2025 retail strategy.
