ALDI Marks Two Years of Sagunto Distribution Hub

-

ALDI is marking the second anniversary of its distribution centre in Sagunto, as the retailer accelerates hiring and store expansion across eastern Spain.

The Sagunto logistics platform now manages 18% of ALDI’s national volume, making it one of the chain’s most significant operational hubs.

The company also confirmed it will add 442 new employees in the Valencian Community in 2026. That figure represents nearly half of the more than 1,100 hires planned nationwide this year.

Alicante will see 254 new roles, Valencia 124 and Castellón 64.

Total headcount in the region is expected to exceed 1,350 employees this year. Of those, 770 workers will be directly linked to the Sagunto facility and nearby stores, spanning warehouse, office and store operations.

Sagunto has shipped close to 290,000 pallets over the past year — 17% more than in its first year of operation. The centre supplies 65 supermarkets, including stores across Valencia, Castellón, Alicante, the Balearic Islands and Teruel.

The retailer plans to expand vertical storage capacity at the site. It will also optimise its warehouse management system (EWM) and introduce transport solutions designed to increase load efficiency.

Deliveries are expected to rise by 10% in the short term.

ALDI operates two distribution centres in the Valencian Community — Sagunto and San Isidro — supporting its position as the third-largest regional footprint for the chain in Spain, with 78 stores.

At national level, ALDI plans to open around 40 new stores in 2026, pushing the company beyond 500 supermarkets in Spain and above 9,000 employees.

The retailer said its expansion strategy is anchored in a private label–led model, with nine out of ten products under its own brand.

Why it matters

Distribution capacity is central to ALDI’s growth strategy in Spain.

Managing nearly one-fifth of national logistics volume from Sagunto signals structural consolidation of supply chain infrastructure in the Mediterranean corridor.

Warehouse automation upgrades and vertical storage expansion indicate continued capital investment in efficiency as store openings accelerate.

With 40 new supermarkets planned nationally in 2026, logistics performance will directly influence stock availability, transport costs and margin discipline.
