DESPAR Italia has introduced the DESPAR Beehives Initiative as part of its long-term sustainable trading commitment, a biodiversity project that will see 35 hives installed in seven regions of the country.
Every beehive finds a place somewhere in DESPAR’s operations, and all-in-all, the network will safeguard over 2 million bees. Created in collaboration with environmental group PlanBee, the initiative is designed to demonstrate DESPAR Italia’s ongoing commitment to sustainable retailing.
Focus on Regional Impact and Environmental Goals
Beehives DESPAR Beehives respects biodiversity in the choice of the location, in fact it is an intervention in stations that can bring a benefit to the environmental situation. It is the second nationwide sustainability initiative under DESPAR Italia’s “Cambiamo il domani” manifesto, the first being a tree planting campaign that has to date brought over 3,000 new trees to Italy since 2023.
The beehive initiative is accompanied by a communications programme, which will be rolled out in digital and in-store channels to inform customers and local communities.
DESPAR Italia is a food distribution consortium comprising six independent retailers. The company operates the DESPAR banner across the country and unites environmental activities together with the regional licensees.
