EDEKA launches regional private label across Germany

-

EDEKA is rolling out a new unified regional private label, bringing locally sourced products under a single “EDEKA Regional” banner across its stores.

The move, announced in Hamburg on April 9, is designed to make product origin clearer for shoppers while strengthening ties with local suppliers.

Under the new label, products will clearly display their region of origin at the top of the packaging, using identifiers such as “Authentic Bavaria” or “Authentic Northern Germany.”

The retailer is also introducing consistent in-store signage, using a distinct yellow design inspired by German town signs to help shoppers quickly identify regional products.

EDEKA Regional replaces several existing local ranges, including “EDEKA Heimatliebe” and “Mein Land,” consolidating them into one national framework for the first time.

The rollout already includes fresh categories such as apples, lettuce, carrots, cucumbers, mushrooms, and asparagus. Additional lines, including berries, stone fruits, potatoes, onions, and pumpkins, are expected to follow in the second half of 2026.

The focus remains on short supply chains and closer collaboration with regional producers. By reducing transport distances, the retailer aims to retain more value within local economies while improving transparency for consumers.

The first products under the new label are now appearing in stores, with a phased transition planned over the coming months.

For suppliers and category buyers, the shift signals a more structured approach to regional sourcing—moving from fragmented local branding to a scalable, nationwide private label strategy.
