Hanshow Partners Launch AI Smart Cart for Retailers

-

Hanshow, shopreme and Lucky Cart have launched a new AI-powered smart cart designed to combine in-store navigation, self-checkout, loss prevention and retail media in a single supermarket touchpoint.

The solution was unveiled in Paris on 15 September and is being positioned as a way for retailers to connect more of the physical shopping journey with digital-store infrastructure.

For shoppers, the cart can support product search, synchronised shopping lists, personalised recommendations, proximity-based promotions, indoor navigation, self-scanning, payment and digital receipts.

For retailers, the commercial case is broader. The partners say the system combines transaction functions with customer engagement, operational data and multi-layer loss prevention. AI camera vision and scale-based controls are designed to reduce reliance on random checks while supporting self-checkout.

The smart cart is also being developed as a retail-media channel. Brands can deliver contextual promotions closer to the point of purchase, while retailers can connect exposure and engagement with basket outcomes.

That makes the trolley more than a checkout device. It potentially becomes a source of shopper-path data, promotional inventory and in-store measurement, areas that have traditionally been easier to manage online than in physical stores.

The product will be available in two configurations: a fully integrated cart with scale-based loss prevention and a retrofit version using AI camera vision for compatible cart fleets. Both use shopreme software and the same integration stack.

Hanshow provides the cart hardware and connected-store infrastructure, shopreme provides self-checkout and loss-prevention technology, and Lucky Cart contributes personalisation, retail-media and measurement tools.

The companies are showcasing the solution at NRF 2026: Retail’s Big Show Europe in Paris from 15 to 17 September.

For supermarket operators, the important question will be whether smart carts can deliver enough labour savings, advertising revenue and checkout efficiency to justify large-scale deployment across existing store estates.
