ITOCHU Acquires Food Stabilizer Maker Takaragen

-

ITOCHU Corporation has agreed to acquire all shares of Japanese food stabilizer manufacturer Takaragen Co., Ltd., making the company a subsidiary through its group unit ITOCHU Food Sales and Marketing Co., Ltd.

The move expands ITOCHU’s capabilities in food ingredient solutions and strengthens its position in the food manufacturing supply chain.

ITOCHU Expands Food Ingredient Solutions

ITOCHU said the acquisition will combine Takaragen’s expertise in food texture technologies with the procurement and marketing network of ITOCHU Food Sales and Marketing.

Takaragen develops stabilizers and formulation technologies used to control texture and consistency in processed foods. These ingredients are commonly used in products such as sauces, dairy items, ready meals, and other packaged foods.

By integrating the two businesses, ITOCHU aims to strengthen its ability to provide solution-oriented support to food manufacturers as consumer demand and product requirements continue to diversify.

The trading group said the partnership will allow the combined business to deliver improved technical support and ingredient sourcing for food companies developing new products or reformulating existing lines.

ITOCHU Food Sales and Marketing currently manages ingredient sourcing and supply relationships across a wide network of food manufacturers in Japan and international markets.

Takaragen’s technical capabilities are expected to complement that network by adding specialised knowledge in food texture stabilisation and formulation.

The acquisition reflects a broader trend across the food industry, where ingredient suppliers are expanding technical capabilities to support product innovation and changing consumer expectations.

ITOCHU said the integration of Takaragen will help strengthen its food business platform and support customers with more advanced ingredient solutions.

The company did not disclose financial details of the transaction.
