Corporation Meiji Holdings began the “Genkotsu Project 2025” on July 2, 2025, together with the Challenge Carbon Neutral Consortium. The project presents consumers with a challenge of preventing climate change through purchasing eco-labeled products and climate-friendly shopping.
The project is managed by a group of 15 member companies made up of manufacturers and retailers in collaboration with the city of Osaka, Hyogo, Nara, and Kyoto along with the city of Yokohama. Its focus is on environmental education, and promotion of the stores on the population averagely of 530,000 students in grades 4-6 and their families.
The campaign called the Ecolabel Hunter 2025 can be viewed as one of the most important components of the project. The students study the carbon footprint data and search of the eco-labels at the shops and at home by special learning kits. It established a new website on the same day to aid the activities.
Meiji is also helping out by selling certified products with environment marks like: Meiji Oishii Gyunyu milk, Meiji Hokkaido Tokachi Camembert Cheese, Meiji Milk Chocolate. It also shows, as part of its brand identity, its so-called “MCS Mark” of the initiative Meiji Cocoa Support that promotes sustainable cocoa cultivation and provides solutions to issues such as child labour and deforestation.
According to Meiji, this initiative contributes toward its 20-year environmental roadmap the “Meiji Green Engagement 2050” that strives toward carbon neutrality through the whole supply chain by 2050. Through collaboration, Meiji and other participating companies aspire to create awareness among people on products that are sustainable and make the transition to low-carbon consolidation faster.
