SAP Innovation Award winner HARTING is strengthening its commitment to sustainable manufacturing by integrating digital carbon tracking and product design tools across its operations. The Germany-based connectivity technology group is using SAP Sustainability Footprint Management to automate CO₂ reporting for over 13,000 materials as part of its carbon neutrality plan by 2030.
Emissions Data Automation and Product Transparency
To meet rising expectations from suppliers, partners, and regulators, HARTING implemented SAP Sustainability Footprint Management. The system automates emissions tracking and delivers site-level data across its supply chain. This has allowed HARTING to scale its environmental reporting while keeping its existing ERP environment and production models intact.
The new system provides HARTING with a one-click access to the correct information regarding CO 2 emissions. Such information assists the company to make quicker choices regarding procurements, material selection and product labels.
HARTING has begun to produce real-time products carbon footprint and is currently optimizing its operations to reduce emissions.
The company also brands its interpreted to be the line of the company such that the Greenline is used to indicate the products that reduce emission by up to 70%. The inputs of Greenline products are renewable and follow cleaner production standards.
EU sustainable preparedness and net production
The system complies with the future EU regulations with the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive and the proposed Digital Product Passport. They both entail verifiable carbon tracking and traceability as low as the material level.
SAP Responsible Design and Production is applicable to HARTING as well. This tool is used to reduce impact on the environment when designing, meet tax laws on plastic, and promote recycling. The criteria of the environment drives the design decisions today, making product lifecycle more efficient and reduced waste on a regional basis.
Wider objectives behind the digital tools involve cutting greenhouse gases emissions and water or land impacts at HARTING factories. SAP Sustainability Footprint Management provides data that enables the company to implement the identity of specific measures at each location, energy consumption and the process of raw materials management.
SAP innovation Award Recognition
In 2025 HARTING was named the winner of the SAP Innovation Award in the Sustainability Hero category. The award acknowledged its move to the packaging made of 85 percent recycled plastic with SAP Responsible Design and Production.
The milestone demonstrates where the group has been in the effort to eradicate virgin plastic, reduce the tax on plastic, and to enhance the sustainability of their packaging and mix of products.
HARTING stays on track, using the digital transformation; it relates to long-term climate objectives. It employs the SAP tools in achieving its goal to be fully carbon-neutral on all production sites by 2030.
HARTING is resolute in integrating the leadership in technology with the performance of the environment. It considers its operations with climate intentions by relying on measured emissions and sustainable designing.
