Tesco UK Apple Season Forecast Strong Growth

-

The Tesco UK Apple Season is set to deliver one of the strongest harvests in recent years, following a summer of near-perfect growing conditions for British fruit.

The growers in the UK have been recording great yields following the prolonged days of sunshine and constant rainfall with high quality apples whose colour and flavour are good and strong. Tesco predicts that the demand of the British apples by the shoppers will grow by 10 per cent in autumn than the last season.

British Fruit Bumper Year

The warm climatic conditions have already increased volumes of the supermarkets in other classes. Tesco claimed that it had 10 per cent more berries and 35 per cent more cherries than last year. That trend is projected to carry on through to the season of apples.

Adrian Scripps, a major grower, based in Kent, said that crops are performing well in recent years. The first apple is already on the shelves, with later varieties of apples like Kanzi and Pink lady yet to get the advantage of the cooler nights in September.

Tesco observed that summer was sunny, which increased sugar content rendering fruits much tastier and colourful. Shopper response is likely to be high at the supermarket as the season advances.

Retail Loyalty and Demand Development

The expected growth in apple demand is among a wider Fresh produce sales growth. Tesco has experienced growth in volume in its UK fruit categories this year, and the number has maintained growth all through the summer and is still performing well into autumn.

Fresh produce has been the focus of Tesco strategy. The supermarket also had summer campaigns to persuade families to consume more fruit and vegetables such as individualised Clubcard benefits and children were given free fruit in the stores.

Outlook

With the Tesco UK Apple Season beginning under strong conditions, growers and supermarkets are preparing for high availability and consistent quality. The availability of enhanced production and vigorous retail promotions are likely to drive the sales of apples all through the fall.

The supermarket will maintain the relationship to British growers because the British growers will create the main harvest of season in the next few weeks.
