Walmart has opened a new beef facility in Olathe, Kansas. This is the company’s first site that it owns and runs directly.
The plant will process fresh beef into packaged cuts. These will go to Walmart stores across the Midwest.
The beef comes from Sustainable Beef LLC, based in Nebraska. Walmart invested in the company in 2022. Cattle are sourced within 250 miles of the plant.
The Olathe site covers over 300,000 square feet. More than 600 jobs have been created. The plant adds strength to Walmart’s supply chain and supports local suppliers.
At the launch event, Walmart gave out community grants:
- Kansas Special Olympics received $35,000
- Boys & Girls Club of Greater Kansas City got $20,000
- Friends In Service of Heroes was awarded $30,000
- Mayor Bacon’s Book Club received $5,000
- In 2024, Walmart and its foundation donated $9.6 million to Kansas-based groups.
The Olathe site is part of Walmart’s plan to build a full beef supply chain. It also supports the company’s $350 billion pledge to grow U.S. manufacturing.
The Walmart beef facility in Olathe is now fully operational.
