Walmart Canada said its annual Fight Hunger. Spark Change. campaign has now contributed more than $55 million to food banks across Canada over the past decade, marking a major milestone for the retailer’s national food insecurity programme.
The retailer confirmed that its 2026 campaign, which ran from February 5 to March 4, raised $4.8 million, including a $1 million contribution from Walmart Canada itself. Funds collected through stores and online donations are directed to local food banks connected to Walmart locations across the country.
The campaign is operated in partnership with Food Banks Canada and forms part of Walmart Canada’s wider food donation and community support network.
The company said the programme supports rising demand at food banks as more households across Canada continue facing food affordability pressure.
Fight Hunger. Spark Change. allows customers to donate during checkout or contribute food and household products directly through stores and digital channels.
Walmart Canada also highlighted the growth of its Retail Food Program partnership with Food Banks Canada. Since joining the programme in 2012, the retailer said participation has expanded from 40 stores to more than 400 stores and facilities nationwide.
According to the company, Walmart Canada has donated 99 million pounds of food through the initiative, helping provide more than 235 million meals across the country.
The announcement also reflects the growing role large retailers are playing in food redistribution, surplus inventory management, and community supply-chain support.
Across the wider Canada supermarket sector, food insecurity partnerships are becoming increasingly visible as retailers face pressure to reduce food waste while supporting local communities.
Walmart Canada said it will continue working with Food Banks Canada to support local food banks and strengthen access to food resources in communities nationwide.
