Walmart to Open New Supercentre in Edmonton by 2027

-

Walmart Canada has confirmed plans to open a new Walmart Supercentre in southwest Edmonton, Alberta, with the store scheduled to launch in 2027 as part of the retailer’s national expansion programme.

The 140,000-square-foot Supercentre will be built in Desrochers Village on Heritage Valley Trail SW and will offer a full grocery operation alongside Walmart’s general merchandise range.

According to the company, the new location will include fresh produce, bakery, deli and fresh protein categories, covering chicken, beef, pork and seafood. The store will also feature a Walmart Pharmacy and full online grocery pickup and delivery services.

The Edmonton project forms part of Walmart Canada’s wider C$6.5 billion investment plan announced in 2025. The multi-year programme focuses on expanding the retailer’s physical store network and strengthening its national supply chain footprint.

Over the past year, Walmart Canada has already opened new Supercentres in Port Credit and Oakville in Ontario. The company has also launched its new ambient distribution centre in Vaughan, Ontario, aimed at improving inventory flow and delivery capacity.

Looking ahead, Walmart Canada has confirmed six additional Supercentres scheduled to open over the next two years. These include new locations in Fort McMurray and Tsuut’ina Nation in Alberta, Sherbrooke in Quebec, Hamilton and London in Ontario, and the new Edmonton site.

In British Columbia, the Squamish Walmart store is also set to be converted into a Supercentre format, adding a full grocery offer to its existing assortment.

Walmart currently operates 59 stores across Alberta, including 12 in the Edmonton area. The retailer employs more than 14,000 associates in the province, making Alberta one of its largest regional operating markets in Canada.

Company representatives said the new southwest Edmonton location is designed to improve access to full grocery and pharmacy services while supporting Walmart’s long-term everyday low price strategy across Western Canada.
