Zoetis Acquires Neogen Animal Genomics Business for $160m

-

Zoetis Inc. has agreed to acquire the animal genomics business of Neogen Corporation for $160 million, strengthening its position in precision livestock health and genetic testing.

The agreement, announced 2 March 2026, will see Zoetis integrate Neogen’s global genomics platform into its Precision Animal Health portfolio. The deal remains subject to regulatory approvals and is expected to close in the second half of 2026.

Neogen’s genomics unit operates five laboratories across the United States, Brazil, Australia, China and the United Kingdom, with an additional office in Canada. The business provides genetic testing and genotyping services to livestock and companion animal markets in more than 120 countries.

The division is particularly established in U.S. beef and dairy genomics. Its technology supports genetic testing for traits linked to animal health, productivity and sustainability.

Zoetis said the acquisition aligns with its strategy to expand predictive animal health capabilities through data-driven tools and advanced diagnostics. The integration is intended to enhance individualized care and support livestock producers with deeper genetic insights.

Neogen’s genomics platform includes fixed array and sequencing technologies, alongside software tools that support decision-making at farm level.

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions. Zoetis said it expects a seamless transition for customers and employees once completed.

Why it matters

For livestock supply chains, genomics increasingly influences breeding efficiency, disease resistance and production yields. Improvements at farm level can affect long-term protein supply dynamics, particularly in beef and dairy categories.

While the deal sits upstream from retail, structural shifts in livestock productivity can eventually influence cost stability and sustainability reporting across food supply chains.

Zoetis expects to complete the transaction during the second half of calendar year 2026.
