Graphic Packaging’s 2024 Impact Report: Toward a Better Future

-

ATLANTA – Graphic Packaging has released its 2024 Impact Report, outlining its progress toward sustainability goals under the “Better by 2030” program. The report reflects the company’s commitments to circular packaging, workforce well-being, and environmental stewardship.

Sustainability Strategy Across Packaging, People, and Planet

Graphic Packaging eliminated approximately 1 billion plastic packages by transitioning to paperboard and submitted over 130 new patent applications. Ninety-seven percent of its packaging products are now considered recyclable, the report said.

It also highlighted its increased employee engagement, noting 20,000+ employees engaged in internal surveys and a 47% increase in Employee Resource Group participation. The Health Safety and Environment Excellence System is now implemented at almost all sites around the world.

Other environmental milestones were 89 percent of purchased forest products provided sustainably and about 1 million metric tons of waste recycled. A new VPPA in Europe will supply 70% of EMEA’s electricity with renewables when it goes live in late 2025.

Long-Term Emissions Target by 2050

As part of its climate strategy, Graphic Packaging reaffirmed its commitment to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. Short-term projects comprise the conversion to green Va-Q-Tec electricity and investments in equipment at the two works, which are already operating on the basis of energy derived from biomass. The company plans to purchase 50% or more renewable power for all operations.

Graphic Packaging’s initial VPPA, which backs new solar in Spain, is estimated to make a significant contribution to the company’s renewable energy goals. The company also reports according to global sustainability reporting guidelines, including GRI, SASB, and the U.N. Global Compact.
