Colruyt Group will open a new Spar store in Mol on Thursday, April 23, expanding its neighborhood retail presence with a strong focus on fresh food and local sourcing.
The store, located on Turnhoutsebaan, will be operated by independent retailers Jordy Vanderlinden and Sanne Brosius. The couple already runs a delicatessen business in Retie, which will continue alongside the new supermarket. Their catering service will also be extended, with collection now available in Mol.
Fresh categories will sit at the heart of the new store’s offer. The delicatessen counter, butcher shop, and in-store bakery are positioned as the main pillars, supported by a full grocery assortment across multiple price ranges.
“We want to create a warm neighborhood store with a passion for good food,” the owners said, highlighting a focus on quality, service, and accessibility.
Alongside core ranges, the store will introduce local specialties, with sourcing partnerships currently being established to strengthen its regional offer.
The location has been selected to address limited retail availability in the area, with extended opening hours aimed at improving convenience. The store will operate from 7:30 AM to 7:30 PM Monday to Saturday, and from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM on Sundays.
A team of 12 employees from the local area has been hired, supported by flexible staff and students, reinforcing the store’s community-based approach.
A pre-opening event for local residents, family, and partners is scheduled for April 22, ahead of the official launch.
The opening marks another step in Colruyt Group’s strategy to strengthen its Spar network through locally operated stores with a strong fresh food proposition and neighborhood focus.
Why it matters
The Mol opening reflects continued investment in proximity retail across Belgium, where convenience, fresh food, and local relevance are becoming key competitive drivers. Independent Spar operators remain central to this model, allowing Colruyt Group to scale its network while maintaining flexibility at store level.
