Walmart Canada has recognised Shadia Tahsin, a grocery department manager in Sudbury, Ontario, for helping her store continue serving customers during a major winter storm earlier in 2026.
Tahsin works at Walmart Store 1105. As worsening road conditions prevented some employees from reaching the location, she travelled across the city and collected eight colleagues.
Her support helped the store remain open, giving local customers continued access to groceries, medicines and other essential products during the severe weather.
Walmart shared her story on 21 July as part of its Grocery Heroes Day recognition. Grocery Heroes Day, observed annually on 19 July, celebrates employees and suppliers who help keep grocery stores operating and communities supplied.
Tahsin joined Walmart Canada around a year and a half ago as a grocery associate. She has since been promoted to grocery department manager after taking on greater responsibility and supporting colleagues and customers.
The recognition also highlights the wider role of frontline grocery workers during weather disruption. Supermarkets depend on store employees, distribution teams and suppliers to maintain product availability when transport and staffing conditions become difficult.
Walmart Canada used the occasion to recognise employees across its stores, supply-chain facilities and corporate offices.
