Aldi UK is forecasting its biggest beer sales day of 2026 on Saturday, 11 July, as England’s UEFA European Championship quarter-final is expected to drive a surge in demand for match-day food and drink. The supermarket expects shoppers to stock up on beer, pizzas, crisps and ice cream ahead of the weekend fixture, reflecting how major sporting events continue to influence grocery purchasing across the UK.
According to Aldi, nearly 2 million beers are expected to be sold on Saturday alone, making it the retailer’s busiest beer sales day of the year so far. The supermarket also forecasts sales of around 1 million packs of crisps and 430,000 pizzas on the same day as customers prepare to watch the match at home.
Across the week leading up to the quarter-final, Aldi expects to sell:
- 8.2 million beers
- 5.7 million packs of crisps
- 2.1 million pizzas
- 4.5 million ice creams
The retailer said the continuing UK heatwave is also expected to contribute to higher demand for frozen treats, with millions of ice creams forecast to be sold during the week.
Football tournaments have traditionally created short-term demand spikes for products associated with home viewing, including alcoholic beverages, snacks, frozen foods and soft drinks. Supermarkets often adjust stock levels and promotional activity to meet increased consumer demand during major international sporting events.
Aldi said customers can choose from a range of own-label beers, including Sainte Etienne Premium Lager and Galahad Lager, as shoppers look for value options ahead of kick-off.
The latest forecast highlights how major sporting occasions continue to provide supermarkets with significant opportunities to increase sales across multiple grocery categories, particularly convenience foods and seasonal products.
