Meijer launches virtual healthcare service with WellSync

-

Meijer has launched a new virtual healthcare service across its Midwest retail network through a partnership with telehealth platform WellSync. The Meijer virtual healthcare service gives customers access to online medical consultations for common conditions directly through the retailer’s website and pharmacy app.

The new service is now available to shoppers across Meijer’s operating states, including Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Kentucky and Wisconsin.

Through the Meijer virtual healthcare service, customers can receive treatment support for everyday health issues such as colds, flu symptoms, allergies, hair loss and other minor conditions.

Each virtual visit is priced at $29.99 and does not require health insurance. Access is provided through Meijer’s pharmacy section online, the Meijer mobile app, and SMS entry options linked to the retailer’s digital services platform.

The consultations are handled by board-certified healthcare professionals. Patients receive personalised guidance and treatment recommendations without needing to visit a physical clinic or pharmacy counter.

The rollout builds on Meijer’s existing in-store pharmacy operations and expands its growing digital health and wellness offering. The retailer already operates full-service pharmacies across hundreds of supercenters and neighborhood formats in the Midwest.

By integrating telehealth into its retail ecosystem, Meijer is positioning its stores as access points not only for groceries and household essentials, but also for basic healthcare services.

Why It Matters

For large-format supermarket operators, healthcare services are becoming an important traffic and loyalty driver. Virtual care allows retailers like Meijer to extend pharmacy engagement beyond store walls while reducing pressure on in-store clinics and counters.

The move also reflects a broader retail trend where supermarkets are expanding into adjacent services such as digital prescriptions, wellness subscriptions and remote consultations. These services support omnichannel strategies and strengthen long-term customer relationships.

For Meijer, the virtual healthcare expansion adds another layer to its one-stop shopping model, combining food retail, pharmacy services and digital health access within a single ecosystem.
