SPAR Malta Adds Fresh-Food Supermarket in Msida

-

SPAR Malta has opened a 420 sq m supermarket in Msida, combining grocery essentials with fresh counters and prepared food, according to an announcement published on 12 October.

The store carries 4,400 products, including 598 SPAR own-brand lines. That makes own label roughly 14% of the assortment by product count, giving the retailer a substantial branded offer within a compact footprint.

Fresh produce, a butcher counter and an in-store bakery sit alongside drinks and packaged groceries. Coffee, pizza and prepared meals extend the offer to customers buying something to eat immediately.

The mix allows the shop to serve more than one shopping occasion: a grocery visit, a fresh-food purchase or a meal on the move. Its two entrances connect the main street and a residential street behind the building.

SPAR’s Maltese business operates under a licence granted to Azzopardi Group in 2016. The retailer combines internationally sourced own-brand products with a strong fresh-food offer.

The announcement did not disclose the investment, staffing numbers or an exact opening date. The next test for the Msida store is how effectively its grocery and food-to-go ranges serve the surrounding neighbourhood.

Editor’s note: Based on SPAR International’s announcement dated 12 October 2026. The own-brand share is calculated from the published product counts and is not a sales figure.
