Waitrose Announces South West Distribution Centre Investment

-

Waitrose has confirmed a multi-million pound investment in a new 360,000 sq ft distribution centre at Mountpark’s Bristol 360. The Waitrose South West distribution centre will be the retailer’s first in the region and is expected to be operational by the end of 2026.

The facility will support deliveries to around 50 existing Waitrose shops and provide capacity for new stores. It forms part of the supermarket’s wider expansion strategy, which includes a full-line shop at Brabazon in north Bristol, due in 2027, and a new convenience store opening later this year at The Arches, Bristol.

Bristol 360 sit is one of the Grade A logistics developments of Mountpark and has BREEAM standing of outstanding and rating A+ EPC. It will have more than 1,200 solar panels, roof terrace, landscaped gardens, and natural light, which is aimed to promote wellbeing and sustainability.

Waitrose estimates the new site will reduce supply chain mileage by 2,225 tonnes of CO2 annually. The development supports the retailer’s goals to be fossil fuel free by 2030 and net zero carbon by 2035.

Once operational, a logistics supplier will run the site on behalf of Waitrose. It will join the supermarket’s existing distribution network, which includes four regional centres in Aylesford, Bracknell, Brinklow and Leyland, as well as national and online fulfilment centres.

The Waitrose South West distribution centre will enhance access to the UK’s road and freight networks through the forthcoming M49 Junction, reinforcing the long-term value of the site as a regional logistics base.

The Waitrose South West distribution centre will play a central role in the retailer’s national supply chain transformation.
