ProAmpac Buys International Paper’s U.S. Bag Converting Business

-

Flexible packaging group ProAmpac has taken over the bag converting operations of International Paper, expanding its footprint in paper packaging across the U.S.

The deal strengthens ProAmpac’s plan to grow in the fiber-based packaging sector, part of what the company calls its “Fiberization of Packaging” strategy. It will also help serve customers in the grocery, convenience, and quick-service restaurant markets with more flexible and recyclable bag solutions.

Greg Tucker, founder and chief executive at ProAmpac, said the move supports the company’s goal to meet rising demand for recyclable paper packaging. “This helps us extend our material science expertise to the U.S. West Coast and gives us added capabilities and redundancies,” he said.

From International Paper’s side, Allison Magness, group vice president for specialty business, described the bag unit as “strong, built on sustainability and reliability.” She said it’s well positioned for growth under ProAmpac’s ownership.

The acquisition marks another step in how North American packaging suppliers are realigning around sustainability and local capacity. For supermarkets and foodservice chains, it signals more secure access to U.S.-made paper bags, reducing dependence on imports.
